A bit of history of the Second World War
Amsterdam was not always a colorful city full of culture. During the Second World War it suffered the attacks that damaged a great part of its buildings. During this terrible time in history, there was a little girl named Anne Frank. During the German army’s invasion of Amsterdam, this girl, only 15 years old, hid in the attic of her house to avoid being seen. Although she was of German descent, she was also Jewish and feared for her life. She is known for writing a diary detailing her life day by day while in hiding. Sadly she and her family were found and murdered. You can find the Anne Frank Statue in the Westermarkt square, close to the Anne Frank house. It is a place you must visit to learn the story of this brave girl who fought and never gave up.
